THE LAST BUT NOT THE LEAST- FUTURE PROOFING

Although if one has Windows XP, then he has the largest and the most reliable installed base with him. XP is expected to support the relevant components till the end whatever may happen.
The soon to arrive, Microsoft 7 is expected within 18 to 24 months is the biggest insurance policy for Windows XP users and the knockout for the Vista.

THE CONCLUSION
The only upgaradation that can be and should be skipped if given an opportunity then it would surely be the transition from XP to Vista. XP may be showing its age, but its age is mainly skin deep: The Vista is no doubt flashy but at the same time it is slower, heavier, lacking the combination of features to unseat XP
