SUPPORTING SYSTEM AND ORIGIN OF BLACKBERRY

by ayush on Sep.15, 2008, under BLACKBERRY, PHONES

SUPPORTING SYSTEM

Blackberry has an integrated email system through a package called BES. Individual users have no option but to use a wireless provider’s email service as they cannot install BES themselves because only organizations with multiple servers run BES on their network. Each Blackberry phone has a unique Blackberry PIN used to identify the device to the BES. BES acts as an email relay for corporate accounts so that users always access their emails.

The software monitors the user’s inbox so that when a new message comes, it can pass it to RIM’S Network Operation Center (NOC) which are then sent to the user’s wireless thereby delivering it to the Blackberry device called Puch email. This is so as all the new emails, contact and the calendar entries are pushed out to the Blackberry device automatically. This also facilitate the user to retrieve all the data by while offline in areas not having wireless service as the BES sends the latest data the time the user logs on.

TEXT MESSAGING IN BLACKBERRY

The new models of the Blackberry use the Blackberry Messenger Software for exchange of messages through the Blackberry PIN. The full featured DBMS can be used by the users in the Blackberry handset to support the customer relationships, managing the clients and other applications that manage large volumes of complex data.

THE TO-BE-LAUNCHED FEATURES

The current 8×00 series offer a 2.5G/EDGE, the current Bold offers a 3G/UMTS and GPS. The 9500 Blackberry Thunder will offer a touch screen to you. Also the Trivo users will be able to their system from a Blackberry phone.

ORIGIN OF THE NAME

The name “Blackberry” has been chosen as the miniature buttons on the RIM’s product looked like a strawberry, however, the name straw was not nice when somebody came up with the name of Blackberry and they went for it.

Though, before this, it was named Leapfrog for the technology leaping over the competition.

Its placeholder name was Pocket link.

It was even named Crack berry for I has the ability to read emails received in real time anywhere and everywhere making it infamously addictive, a reference to the drug form of cocaine known as crack. It became so popular that the November’s 2006 Webster’s New World College Dictionary named “Crack berry” the new of the year.

Many users, called it “Berries” spawning a litany of offshoots eg. “Berry thumb” or “berry blister” is the soreness that occurs from handling the cramped keyboard
