ABOUT MAX PAYNE

A third person shooter video game version 1.05 released in Windows on July 25th, 2001; Xbox and PS2 in December 2001, Mac OS in July 2002 and GBA in December 2003, developed by Remedy Entertainment, Rockstar Toronto (PS2), Rockstar Vienna (Xbox), Rockstar Leeds (GBA) and MacSoft (MAC) with the producer as 3D Realms. Its Publishers include Gathering of Developers (WIN), Rockstar Games (PS2, Xbox,GBA), Feral (MAC), Tec Toy (BR), Capcom (JP), Valve Corporation (Steam) and MacSoft (MAC) and runs on an engine by MAX-FX.

FEATURES OF THE GAME

The game basically deals with shooting from enemy to enemy with no key hunting in the levels that are straightforward. Though, some levels have elements and puzzles with constant supply of Ammos from the enemies who drop it when killed. Enemies intelligent behavior eg. taking cover behind obstacles, retreating from the player, throwing grenades etc. is based on pre scripted commands which is why you will see the enemies performing the same thing while replaying a level.

LEVELS OF MAX PAYNE

The higher levels of the game get very much challenging like the level of the Dead on Arrival, will limit you to 7 saves a chapter and on completing it, the player is sent to the Final Battle fighting against 20 killer suits each armed with a automatic shotgun upon the completion of which, further, you can view a secret room with the photographs of New York. The level of the New York Minute will force you to complete th chapter before the time allotted.

Max that is the player dies after suffering 5 bullets, 3 assault rifle bullets or an accurate shotgun blast on the highest difficulty level. And you can heal your player with painkillers which you collect throughout and carry and use them when needed.

The player is givan a unique advantage over his enemies with the slow motion feature which gives you real time to react to any shootings, thereby, avoiding being shot performing special moves of shoot dodges.

The character of the game, Max Payne is modeled after the creator of the game, Sam Lake.

STORYLINE OF MAX PAYNE

The game starts with the player, Max, returning home to see druggies high with the new drug called Valkyr and also that the druggies have already killed his wife and newly born daughter before attacking on him. Three years after his wife’s funeral getting transferred to the DEA, he becomes an undercover investigator for the Puchinello Mafia Family responsible for trafficking of Valkyr. Max’s collegiate, A.B.B. Hensley gives him a message asking him to meet Alex Balder, another DEA agent in the subway. 

Max, on arriving finds Alex shot by an unknown enemy with the result that the police consider him a suspect. Also, the Punchinello family finds out that he is a cop and wants him dead. Max seeks Jack Lupino, overseeing Valkyr distribution for the Punchinello family. After killing whom, he meets Mona Sax, who adds a sedative in his drink and leaves him to be found by the Mafia, who proceed. Max escapes and accesses to a shipment of guns of the Russian mob after killing their traitor. He uses these weapons to intrude the house of Don Punchinello, head of the Mafia and discovers that the Don does not exist in the Valkyr market when the Don is killed by agents of Nicole Horne, CEO of Aesir Corp, in front of Max. Horne injects her and then Max with an overdose of Valkyr and leaves him for dead.

When he gets up, he pursues the phrase “Cold Steel”, heard just before he passed out leading him to a foundry with an old military bunker under it. Valkyr was due to a military project to improve its soldiers’ stamina and morale; a project halted after it began due to lackluster results. He also discovers that his wife was found out about the project while working at the District Attorney’s office, so Nicole Horne let Valkyr junkies loose in Max’s house. Max then gets a call from B.B. asking him to meet at a garage lot. Max realizes that B.B. had shot Alex, framing Max for his murder. 

A gun fight takes place in which B.B. is killed where Max gets a call from a man named Alfred Woden who is part of a secret society called the “Inner Circle, asking him to come to the Asgard building. He then informs Max about Nicole Horne and Inner Circle cannot pursue Horne because “their hands are tied.” They ask Max to kill Nicole Horne in return for ensuring that criminal charges against him are dropped. After the meeting, in the room comes Horne’s agents and kill everyone in the room except Max, who escapes, and Woden as he pretends to be shot. 

Max enters the Aesir Corporation main office, where Horne is located so that he makes his way through security guards and mercenaries, and runs into Mona Sax again who is shot by mercenaries refusing to shoot Max. Max goes to Nicole and tells that the thing started after Max’s wife found out about the Valkyr project. Horne reaches the roof boarding a helicopter. Max shoots the guy wires of the building’s antenna running to the roof and the Antenna snaps off the roof coming crashing on the helicopter. The NYPD, arresting Max. As he is led out of the building by the SWAT team, he sees Alfred Woden knowing that Woden will ensure his safety through the judicial system.

REVIEWS OF MAX PAYNE

Max was given a rating of 89% on Metacritic on xbox and PC versions. BBC said that it was an atmospheric third person shooter with captivating graphics and action sequences praising the graphics, game play and detail in the game. The PS2 got very normal comments and even for the PC and xbox though its still reviews were positive.

MOVIE OF MAX PAYNE

The hollywood reporter reported that the game was to be converted to a film by 20th Century Fox directed by John Moore with Mark Wahlberg as Max Payne, Beau Bridges as B.B. Hansley, Chri O’ Dennel as Jason Colvin, Rapper Ludacris as Jim Bravura and Mila Kunis as Mona Sax. The production started in 2008 produced by Cllision Entertainment and Firm Films in Toronto, and began in the Toronto Transit Commission’s unused tunnel.The movie is heard to be released on 17th October 2008.
