ABOUT MAX PAYNE 2

The game is third person shooter of single player developed by Remedy Entertainment (Windows), Rock star Vienna (Xbox 360 and PS2) and published by Rock star Games and produced by 3D Realms. It has an engine of MAX-FX 2.0 (Windows) and Render Ware (PS2 and Xbox) with a version of 1.02 released on 15th October, 2002 on Microsoft Windows, November 25th, 2003 on Xbox 360, January 4, 2008 on Steam and December2, 2003 on PS2.

STORYLINE OF MAX PAYNE2

Max Payne 2 continues for its first part where Max, an undercover cop framed for the murder mystery in New York borrowing its graphics from the movies and also the cinematography.

FEATURES OF MAX PAYNE 2

This game is easier than it previous version as enemies are weaker except for two bosses that gives it a run and gun feel. When you finish the game for the first time, higher difficulties will be played for you including new challenges of protection of others with some parts featuring Mona Sax rather than Max. The enemies would stay and team up behind the doors waiting for you to jump and if a grenade is thrown, enemies would run than to wait for it to explode. Headshots will kill the enemy on the spot making Desert Eagle weapon more effective as it can also be dual wielded. Max’s arsenal is expanded along with new weapons and secondary weapon menu so that you can use a melee attack, grenades or Molotov cocktails with the fire alarm.

GRAPHICS OF MAXPAYNE 2

The graphics of the game are better with high resolution textures, high polygon count models and a facial animation system. The bullet time 2.0 have been introduced that can increase Max’s movement speed, firing rate and reload speed. There is u=inclusion of havoc physics engine 2.0 for sophisticated collision handling for rag dolls and rigid bodies to make interactions realistic.

SOUNDTRACK OF MAX PAYNE 2

The game features “Late Goodbye” from the rock group called Poet’s of the fall based on the poem written by Sam Lake.

CHARACTERS OF THE GAME

The main character is Max Payne as the player.

Mona Sax is the love interest of Max.

Vladimir Vlad Lem is the main villain.

Vincent Vinni Gognitti is the leader of mobsters and Vlad’s rival.

Alfred Woden is the one eyed leader of Inner Circle and is an elder criminal dying of cancer.

Detective Walerie Winterson is Max’s co worker and partner.

Leutanant Jim Bravura is Max’s Boss and former deputy chief of police.

STORYLINE OF MAX PAYNE 2

Two years later, Max is a NYPD detective investigating a series of murders by a group of hit men known as The Cleaners. Max meets Mona Sax, who was thought to be killed in the first game. While returning to station, he hears his new partner, Valerie Winter son, talking on the phone about Mona after which the station is attacked by unknown enemies finding Mona. After fighting off the assassins, Max hunts the people responsible for the attack. He then goes through three of his dreams during the game which leads him to a construction site, where he and Mona defend themselves against the hitmen. 

After the hitmen stop coming, Detective Winterson comes putting Mona at gunpoint whereas she claims that Winterson will kill her, and after moments of consideration, Max shoots Winterson so that Mona can escape. Before she dies, Winterson shoots Max, putting him in the hospital. After Max leaves the hospital, he searches Mona, and they begin investigating getting the answers after he is captured by Vladimir Lem, head of the Russian mob. 

Max comes to know that The Cleaners work for Lem, removing competition to his various businesses and Lem is part of the Inner Circle with Alfred Woden, who ensured that the charges against Max were dropped at the end of the last game. Lem wants to kill Woden and gain control of the Inner Circle. He comes to know that Mona is a hired gun for Woden and has to kill Lem and Max. Finally, Detective Winterson was Lem’s mistress, for which Max is shot and left for dead in a burning building is what he learns. Mona rescues Max after which they go to Woden’s mansion to try to save him from Lem.

The alternate ending, in which Mona Sax survives, is not considered canon.

At the mansion, Mona knocks Max to the ground in an attempt to follow her orders to kill him, discovering that her feelings for him keep her from doing so. While Lem appears and shoots Mona followed by Woden who lunges at Lem, resulting in Woden’s death. Max and Lem begin to fight, while the mansion burns around them. Lem dies as the floor under him collapses. Max returns to Mona as the police arrive, where she dies in his arms. If the game is completed at its highest difficulty, Mona survives. This, however, is not considered canon.
