CONCEPT OF THE BMW X6
The car has attributes of a SUV having high ground clearance, al wheel drive, all weather durability with large wheels and tires it will be released for sale in second half of 2008 by the German automaker BMW.
ORIGIN OF THECAR
The car is built in the BMW’s North American plant in Spartanburg, South Carolina. It is called the “Sport’s Activity Coupe” by BMW and is longer and wider than the X5, though it is lower and has only four seats.
ENGINES OF THE CAR
PETROL ENGINE
The car uses two variants both of which use twin-turbocharged engines with the best model as xDrive50i using the new 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine. The engine produces 407 horsepower (303 kW) between 5,500 and 6,400 rpm, and 600 N•m (443 ft•lbf) of torque over a range between 1,800 and 4,500 rpm and is the first production turbocharged V8 engine in the world to feature its turbochargers between the V section in the middle of the two banks of cylinders.
The second model is the X6 xDrive35i powered by the N54 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged inline-six gasoline engine that produces 306 horsepower (228 kW) between 5,800 and 6,250 rpm with a torque of 400 N•m (295 ft•lbf) between 1,400 and 5,000 rpm.
DIESEL ENGINE
The car similarly uses two diesel variants constituting 90% of sales volume in European markets called the xDrive30d and xDrive 35d, respectively. Both are powered by BMW’s 3.0-liter turbo diesel engine (in its sequential twin-turbocharged variant for the xDrive35d) producing 235 hp (175 kW) in the xDrive30d and 286 hp (213 kW) in the xDrive 35d version.
PERFORMANCE OF BMW X6
The X6 uses the new Dynamic Performance Control (DPC) system working in unison with xDrive all-wheel drive. DPC is a drive train and chassis control system that regulates traction and correct over- and under steer actively spreading out drive forces across the rear axle. Torque is split between the front and rear wheels (xDrive) and also between the side to side at the rear to improve agility adding stability.
The DPC features clutch packs that activates a planetary gear set causing one wheel to overdrive on the output sides actuated by an electric motor. A conventional control system will use the brakes reducing the speed of the faster moving wheel and reduce engine power leading to increased brake wear and slower than optimal progress. The DPC speeds the slower moving wheel maintaining stability. DPC is unique as it is effective when the X6 is accelerating and decelerating at any speed and under any road conditions.
